ANTOFAGASTA RACECOURSE

The Antofagasta region of Chile was the home of the Club Hipico de Antofagasta racecourse, a dirt track with circumference of 9 furlongs. It first hosted racing in 1908.

Although the track held only run standard racing, never hosting Listed races, it did operate for a period of 104 years, but it was remote meaning crowds were low and few horses travelled from afar to compete at the track.

The president of racing at the track, Pedro Troncoso Martinic, made an announcement on 31st January 2013 that racing would cease. The final meeting was due to take place on 24th January 2013 but, in the event, the final meeting took place on 20th February 2013.
